Stila In The Light
Stila In The Light palette is yet another neutral toned palette I reach for quite often (for someone who loves those vampy, dark shades I mean, and the colourful ones of course). I like it mainly because it features a combination of both mattes (Bare, Bliss, Sandstone, Ebony) and shimmer/glitter shades (Kitten, Sunset, Champagne, Gilded Gold, Luster, Night Sky). Whereas Kitten and Champagne do have more of a sheen once applied. This palette looks quite cool/neutral toned in the palette but goes on rather warm on me. Especially Gilded Gold, which looks nothing like gold on me, it has a strong warm base actually. I do have to say, that I like this palette – shade wise, but to be honest, there is a lot of fall out, especially with the shimmer shades. I wouldn’t use those without any base (like Fyrinnae’s Pixie Epoxy or a cream eyeshadow), the shimmer/glitter particles tend to move and well, fall onto your face. Also, the mattes have decent pigmentation (the black, Ebony, however, is the worst black eyeshadow I have tried. It is dry, not really pigmented and goes on really patchy, for my swatch I used four layers), the shimmery shades are somehow sheer and I only use my finger to apply those, otherwise they are a bit too sheer for my liking.
I haven’t experienced any fading or creasing with this palette but I use a base anyway (NARS, Pixie Epoxy when working with those shimmer shades). The texture is rather dry but soft in touch if that makes sense. This may lead to some powdery residue, aka the fall out I mentioned earlier. I really like the cardboard packaging, as it is lightweight and good for travelling. All my swatches are applied with my finger, without any base. I used two swipes for the mattes (excluding Ebony, four layers), three for the shimmers.
Overall, I would say it is a solid neutral palette, despite the fact, that I am not that much into those standard neutrals (also, rediscovering some neutrals but still … you can never have enough of those transition shades, for blending, etc). I can create a lot of looks with this one and play up the shimmers quite well using a cream eyeshadow underneath for example. It’s more of a like than love situation here, mainly due to the fall out, the shimmery shades could be a bit more pigmented and well, that black eyeshadow. If you would like to take a look at my favourite black eyeshadows, I reviewed and swatched them here.
I think I am going to pick this one up at some point – it looks like all of the colors that I love, and I miss Kitten. It was a favorite of mine – I even went through a whole pan 😉
It’s definitely a nice palette, I like the variation of mattes and shimmer/glitter but it has a lot of fall out, sadly. Kitten is such an amazing highlighting shade, I also used it on my cheeks for a night out, looks amazing in pics xxx
Hey Claire, oh this one looks really good! I am pretty big on neutrals, and I seldom wear darker eye makeup since I discovered bold lipsticks. This looks like something I’d love! Totally drooling over Gilded Gold now! I have a REAL soft spot for something like that 🙂
I like the bold lip bold eye combo a lot actually but I can see how some people just don’t like it or find it ‘too much’. I think the darker lipsticks suit you very well sunny. this palette would be a nice addition then. I wished gilded gold would actually look gold on me, not so brownish haha
Love neutral palettes
I never really got into Stila, for some reason. I saw some nice palettes here and there, but you know, there are just so many brands and only that much $$ for stuff. LOL!
Oh I totally get what you’re saying. I am not the biggest stila lover on earth and tbh, I only have/kept this palette, everything else I purged, also, I quite liked the convertible colours but I just prefer my chanel and other cream blushers xxx
I have this one and LOVE it. Like Larie I have a soft spot for Kitten. It was my first loved eyeshadow!
Kitten looks like a nice shade in the pan but I have to say it goes on/looks even better than expected, love it as a highlighting shade both for eyes and cheeks xxx
Your product shots are GORGEOUS! I don’t actually own any stila palettes (and I definitely don’t need more), but your photography is so beautiful that it actually makes me want to get it.
hi chelle, thank you for visiting and commenting 🙂 and thank you, haha. if I would recommend something from stila, it would be this palette xxx
I have only heard good things about this palette! The colors look very wearable from your swatches but I totally do NOT need another neutral palette!
I actually need some more neutrals, have been plaing with those transition/blending shades a lot. it is a nice palette but has a lot of fall out xxx
It’s a lovely palette, definitely! I especially like the darker colors.
I like the combo here in general, wish there would be less fall out though xxx
